Don’t throw your old films away –

Bring them to Home Movie Day!

Home Movie Day! is an annual, worldwide event that lures neglected small-gauge films out of attics and onto screens for participants to watch & enjoy. Home movies offer a unique “You Are There” view of past decades and are an important part of America’s cultural history.

HOW IT WORKS: Bring one or more reels of 8mm, Super8 or 16mm home movies and we’ll inspect, repair, and project* one reel on a first-come, first-served basis. Damaged films cannot be screened but preservation specialists will offer expert advice on caring for at-risk materials. Transfer services are not provided, but information about film-transfer and film care will be available.

No films of your own? Join us for the screenings! It’s free & fun!

VOLUNTEERS NEEDED:  Please call (323) 669-0431

For more information, visit www.homemovieday.com

*HMD 2008 reserves the right to decline the screening damaged or inappropriate reels

MAYME A. CLAYTON LIBRARY & MUSEUM

MCLM is in Institution Building Mode

The Mayme A. Clayton Library & Cultural Center has acquired a new home for the Mayme A. Clayton Collection of African American History & Culture.  The Clayton Collection has languished for years without an appropriate home.  Now, with the cooperation of the County of Los Angeles and the City of Culver City, California the Clayton Collection will be housed in a former Los Angeles County Superior Court located at 4130 Overland Avenue, Culver Ctiy, CA 90230.

New home of the Mayme A. Clayton Library & Cultural Center

Our main focus will now shift to the relocation, care and organization of the collection so it can be made available to the public as quickly as possible.  As a result, we will limit our program activities (research services, film festivals, exhibits, etc.) for a short time.

Join us for the historic BLACK & LATINO FILM FESTIVAL.  The film festival marks the first collaboration between the Mayme Clayton Museum & Cultural Center and the Department of Libraries of the University of Southern California.  The festival will feature classic Black & Latino films from the 1940s, 50s and 60s.  These cinematic gems illuminate the heart of two people defined distinctly by history, tradition and language but united in the struggle for creative expression in America.  The Black & Latino Film Festival is presented in the spirit of community unity as a tribute to two peoples whose shared history dates back to the founding of the City of Los Angeles (El Pueblo de Nuestra Senora de la Reina de los Angeles del Río de Porciúncula) in 1781.
